FARM ANIMALS Welcome to Fishguard Veterinary Services. I am hoping to introduce several new innovations over the next few months. 1.The billing system will computerize and will give batch numbers but I think the batch numbers might not appear until May’s bill. 2. We are hoping to increase our preventative input on farms and to set systems in place for long term herd health planning. This is likely to evolve during this summer but should bring long term cost benefits. 3. Billing will be monthly but no interest will be charged for the first 6 months of the new business to allow clients time to adjust to the change. 4. The biggest change is to how we price for our work. There has been an increased demand for cheaper drugs from the majority of clients and this can be achieved but has to be partially offset by an increase in fees. We will charge for the majority of work on a time basis rather than a headage basis so that clients can again save costs by avoiding undue delays. The exceptions will be:- a.Calvings and prolapses – on time but up to a max price of 1 hour b.Lambings and prolapses – on time but up to a max price of ½ hour c. Caesarian cow – on time but up to max price of 2 hours d. Caesarian ewe – on time but up to max price of 1 hour From 1st April 2007 ALL drugs will be a minimum of 16.5% cheaper which, will in many cases offset any increase in fees for professional work as the administered drugs will cost less.In addition, from 10th April onwards I will offer an additional 8% discount for drug orders with a combined value of over £500. These orders should be written down with name and farm name and dropped in to the surgery allowing 3 working days for preparation. If the drugs are paid for on collection a further 8% will be taken off. Some examples of the price reductions are (based on march prices) :- Cepravin DC (20) - current price £43-80 , new price £36-00, discount price £33-12 Cephaguard LC (30) – current price £80-52, new price £67-10, discount price £61-73 Tylan – current price - £25-23, new price £21-02, discount price £19-34 Hexasol LA – current price £33-32, new price £27-76, discount price - £25-54 Leo Yellow – current price £57-72, new price £48-10, discount price - £44-25 The visit fee will be £17-50 with the additional out of hours fee staying at £10-00 The hourly rate will be £70 going down to all fractions i.e 15mins would be £17-50 There will be ample opportunity to benefit from the reduced drug prices , efficient visits and increased preventative health care to improve the service that we are offering as vets which should help the productivity of the farm.
